Give Blood. Often.

Did you know that out of the 38% of people who are eligible to donate blood, only 4% do so regularly? While many Americans will donate blood in times of crisis, many aren’t aware that 1,100 of these life-saving donations are needed on a daily basis to meet the needs of our community.

On Monday, October 14th, 2013, the Dallas Social Security lawyers of Morgan & Weisbrod hosted a blood drive through Carter BloodCare, the largest blood center in Texas. The drive was held outside the firm’s Dallas headquarters in the Carter BloodCare Mobile unit from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Of the 18 individuals who signed up to donate, 15 were able to give—exceeding the firm’s goal of 13 donors.

Ten Minutes Can Save Three Lives

Throughout North America, more than 4.5 million patients need blood transfusions annually.

  • In the United States alone, a patient needs blood every two seconds.
  • According to Carter BloodCare, one donation of blood from an eligible donor can save up to three lives.

Though the entire donation process can take about an hour, actually drawing approximately one pint of blood will only last from five to ten minutes. The recovery process begins in hours and will take about 56 days to complete.
