Bursitis of the knee may cause temporary soreness or chronic pain. When the bursae become inflamed and cause bursitis, the result can be disabling joint pain. However, in order to qualify for Social Security disability the joint pain and difficulty moving must interefere with your ability to work.

You May Qualify for Social Security Disability If You….

In order to qualify for Social Security disability, you will have to prove that:

  • You meet a listing in the Listing of Impairments. Bursitis does not have its own listing; however, Section 1.02 of the Listing of Impairments covers major disfunction of a jointdue to any cause.
  • You are unable to work and you will remain unable to work for at least 12 months. Even if you don’t meet the specific requirements of Section 1.02 or any other section in the Listing of Impairments you may be eligible for Social Security disability if you can’t work due to your condition and you will not be able to work for at least a year.

When you complete your Social Security disability application, you will be asked about the treatments you have tried for your bursitis. This may include medication, therapy, and surgery. If you have any questions about your medical treatment, please speak directly with your doctor. Similarly, if you have any questions about your eligibility for Social Security disability, please download a free copy of our book, Social Security Disabilty: What You Need to Know, so that you can get the information you need to make an informed decision about your future.
